SECOND ENTRY: REBUTTAL

1.people should debate in order to increase their knowledge about facts and everything that surrounds them
There are lots of sources of information far more substantial than what debate can offer. TV’s, radios, and newspapers were more factual than opinions on debate. Not all matter discussed in a debate proper are facts. Some debates inject their own views on certain topics or issues. Also debating is not a toll for a person to acquire knowledge. It is already innate in a person to search for knowledge even if he is not a debater per se.

2.widen their ideas about the world today especially the system of government and other concerned issues that need to be tackled
Not all issues are being debated. There are still more issues unavailable in debates. One can widen ideas in Reading rather debating. Debating should never be the reason for people to be aware of current issues or system of government we have today. It is imperative for everyone, debater or not, to be involved in the present issues pressing the society today.

3.to be able to distinguish advantages and disadvantages of the issue
In every debate, people tend to be bias or one-sided. At times, debaters tend to overshadow the points against them by appraising their own bias arguments. Therefore, a person can never see the two sides of the issue, that is, advantages and disadvantages during debate.

4.to exchange knowledge and points of view
Exchanging knowledge occurs everyday. Typical class discussion and conversation with friends. No need for debates to exchange knowledge.

5.to practice oral and verbal communication
Oral and verbal communication can be produced even without debate. To be a good debater, they must be practicing oral and verbal communication. Also, debating is not the oral communication per se, it is the combination of expression and the ideas or knowledge you have.

6.to actively participate and practice social development
One cannot directly prove that after debate, that person becomes more socially aware. Debating is just limited to articulation of opinions or points of view regarding social development. Therefore, debating can never be a way for people to actually participate and practice social development.

7.to be more sensitive around the society and increase self confidence
Being sensitive and aware starts from self-discipline, not from debate. Debates could never prove that the person increased self confidence after each debate. It is not logical to say that when people debate they will be more sensitive and better only in words but not in actual practice. However, it is conceded that through debating, people get to increase self confidence
